Weekly Rooting Guide

Recommended Posts

This has been a very good day for the Chiefs:

They won (8-5)

-and-

the Broncos lost (10-3)

-and-

the Bengals lost (10-3)

-and-

the Steelers won (8-5).

The only thing that might have been better would have been for the Jets to not win. If the Patriots lose in Houston tonight, that could also ultimately help the Chiefs if the Broncos continue their steep descent into offensive irrelevance: They have scored only 16.4 points per game on offense since Brock Osweiler began playing.

"Steep descent"....?

Until this week Denver was averaging over 160 yards rushing with Osweiler at QB...  His QBR is almost 20 points higher than Mannings, and his TD% is almost double...

There were games with Manning early in the season where the defense literally won the game.  Oh, and Osweiler isn't a turnover machine, which means at least Denver should have a chance each week instead of climbing out of massive holes.

Your information seems unreliable - at best.

Did you take exception to the phrase because it seemed unduly harsh? I went back to double-check, and found that the Broncos' offense had scored 19.4 points per game with Peyton at the helm (through week 9, and not including the Chiefs' game from which I counted among the most recent Broncos' performances). The defense may in fact have bailed out Manning on multiple occasions, but that wasn't really pertinent to my argument. The fact is that today the Broncos' offense isn't scoring as much as it did earlier in the season. As far as Osweiler protecting the ball, that is good, but if you are merely punting rather than chucking interceptions, that's not going to do anything for your scoring (although it certainly put more of a stress on the Broncos' defense early in the season).

The information, a simple mathematical calculation, is trustworthy. I didn't attribute this to anything specific, but an offense that scores an average of 16.4 points per game can't be supported by the defense indefinitely.

In comparison, the Chiefs are producing over 23 points per game on offense alone.

The AFC is wide open. I would say the Patriots (w/Gronk) are currently at the top. After that, there is a whole lot of teams bunched. Pittsburgh is a much better team with Roethlisberger. I predict the same will be true of the Bengals. While the Bengals are loaded, it would not surprise me if they dropped a few games leading into the playoffs.

That Pittsburg offense is unreal.

If had to bet skin, that's my AFC representative for the big one.

I wouldn't rule out Peyton fully. Just yet.

Not much left in the tank though, but could be a problem for Pitt.

The Steelers still have a Defense problem and already word that Peyton may practice again starting this week.

Can't discount the fact that the Steelers allowed a douche back up QB to get 2 passing TDs on them right off the bench.

Peyton is done...  Denver is running the offense Kubiak wants to run now with Osweiler, not that Pistol nonsense that Manning had to run because he can't go under center...  There is no way you can go back to Manning at this point in the season, especially if he isn't 100% or playing at a higher level than the guy that replaced him.

I don't want much to change than they are now. Currently, the Chiefs are the #5 wildcard team. They would play at Indy. I don't see where that would be a bad match up. With or without Luck, that team seems to be the worst in the playoffs, even worse than Houston (should they replace Indy). Currently, the Patriots are the # 1, and the Bengals are #2. I hope it stays that way. The Bengals without Andy Dalton may be the easiest team to play in the second round. Denver #3 would host the Jets #6. I don't care who wins that game. Neither are going to beat New England #1. If all that plays out as indicated in my forecast above, KC would play at New England for the title game. I like our odds.

Things are coming in place. Could this be the first time the Chiefs go to the Super Bowl since that 1969 team? We can dream dreams, but at least the Chiefs have a very good shot to get into the playoffs, and maybe even win a game or two.

If the seedings finish as you posted, wouldn't the Chiefs, if they beat Indy or Houston, then play the #1 and Denver play Cincy?  That would change if the Jets beat the Donks since they then would be the lowest seed remaining and have to play NE.  Actually, with all the upsets and injuries, it's impossible to predict the final standings.  I just want the Chiefs to be seeded five rather than six and if Denver stumbles against the Dalton-less Bengals, so much the better.  The Chiefs really need to win out.

Correct. Only the Jets, if they beat Denver (which I think will happen) will face New England. Otherwise, if Denver wins, the Chiefs will travel to the suburbs of Boston.

I also heard some of the reporters from Indy going back and forth with Pagano. We are fortunate not to have the level of idiocy that is the media in Indianapolis. God help them. They probably have trouble eating cereal in the morning. They are stupid, and arrogant. Not a good combo. A reporter was interviewing Andrew Luck, and was trying to call out his manhood for not playing on Sunday. Stupid. The dunce cap of shame should be worn by Hoosiers. That is one reason I left that piece of crap state when I reached 18. They are some of the nicest people when you don't involve sporting events. Throw a ball on the ground, and they act like two year olds.

The AFC seeding is up in the air. The final week will determine it all - a bunch of divisional showdowns.

Bold prediction: Denver loses to SD final game. Denver @ KC for wildcard. Rematch at Arrowhead

Denver loses out?  Anything could happen, but that's unlikely.  SAN is done and the Donks may still have something to play for in week 17.

I'm only listening to AppalacianChief who told us all, when 1-5 that we were only going to lose 1-2 games. I hope he's wrong and we lose 0 games, but that was pretty cool.

Denver is at Pittsburgh, and Brock Osweiller is the starter. He probably feels the heat from Manning, who returned to practice, but will not play. Osweiller is a good athlete, but does not have Manning's command for the game. Pittsburgh will be fighting for their life. This is a must win for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh 21 - Denver 12

Next week, Cincinnati comes to Mile High. Cincinnati is without their quarterback too. However, there are reports now that he is opting not to have surgery, and could be back in the regular season. Two weeks is too soon to return, so I expect McCarron to be under center. McCarron is a heady quarterback, and has a surprising ability to hit the long pass. Manning may want to return by this date, but it would likely be a mistake. I doubt Manning is in any shape after being in a boot for three weeks. Osweiller gets another shot. Neither McCarron nor Osweiler will be terribly successful.

Denver 9 - Cincinnati 10

The final regular season, will be a home game for Denver against San Diego. The Chargers have been down. They have had several injuries on their offensive line, and it has gone poorly. You can predict Phillip Rivers will be slinging the ball. Manning will need to return by this date. He needs at least one regular season game in order to prepare for the playoffs.

Manning will be rusty. He will overthrow passes, and San Diego will beat Denver knocking them out of the playoffs. A sad end to a once great quarterback, who stayed one season too long. The NFL is a harsh league. Manning had his time in the sun. Its time for him to get a clue, and a rocking chair to boot.

Denver 6 - San Diego 14.

Denver is done.

I hope they miss the playoffs entirely. It seems Manning is rushing to get back in as the starter. Osweiler is faltering a bit. He just might be a choke specialist. It will be fun to watch this team embroiled in a quarterback controversy as their season fades away.
