KC Warpaint 3,234 Posted January 18, 2016 Share Posted January 18, 2016 Preseason star Fred Williams, offensive lineman Laurence Gibson and defensive lineman Jimmy Staten have signed reserve-future deals with the Chiefs, sources told The Star on Sunday. Meanwhile, the agents for tight end Ross Travis and offensive lineman Michael Liedkte tweeted that their clients also signed reserve-futures deals. Reserve-futures contracts begin when the new league year opens in March and don’t count against teams’ current roster limits. Williams, 27, is listed at 6 feet and 190 pounds. He caught 15 passes for 167 yards and three touchdowns in the preseason, and spent most of the season on the practice squad. Gibson, who is listed at 6 feet 6 and 315 pounds, was a seventh-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was cut by the Cowboys when teams had to reduce their rosters from 75 to 53 men, and snapped up by the Chiefs in September. He spent the entire season on the practice squad. Staten, who is listed as 6-foot-3 and 311 pounds, was a fifth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2014. He was selected after a senior season at Middle Tennessee State in which he recorded 30 tackles and two hurries. Staten was claimed off waivers by the New York Giants in August and was waived again roughly two weeks later. He signed with the New England Patriots’ practice squad but was later waived. He signed with the Chiefs in September and remained on the practice squad. Travis, 23, is an undrafted free agent who played basketball at Penn State. He spent a week on the Chiefs’ practice squad earlier this season before his release in September, but was eventually re-signed to the practice squad in November. The 6-foot-7, 235-pounder was a forward who averaged 5.5 points and 6.3 rebounds as a senior in 2014. Liedtke, 24, was a three-year starter at Illinois State, where he was a teammate of current Chiefs tight end James O’Shaughnessy. Liedtke was an undrafted free agent who signed with the Dolphins in May and was eventually released from the practice squad before joining the Chiefs' practice squad in October. He is listed at 6 feet 3 and 310 pounds. Only players who are not on an NFL team’s active roster at the conclusion of the regular season are eligible for these contracts.
