We sure didn't push at all to have Smith's suspension reduced last year, we gave away a home game to please the league, and we just got screwed out of two draft picks by the NFL. I wonder if Sean wanted to fight the suspension but we were too concerned about pre-paying for hosting a SB and sucking up to Goodell to appeal.

Maybe not so fast ......

The Kansas City Star's Terez Paylor reports the Chiefs "are making a strong push" to re-sign free agent CB Sean Smith.

Oakland is also interested after striking out on Janoris Jenkins. Arguably the best corner left on the market, Smith will try to goad the teams into a bidding war. The Chiefs pass defense was a mess early, but it solidified after Smith returned from a three-game suspension.

nope,

The #Raiders and CB Sean Smith agreed to a 4-year deal worth $40M, source said, with $20M guaranteed

So what was the hang up? The 20 guaranteed? The 40M total? Wasn't 10 per reasonable? 4 years, but who cares about length when it's all about the guaranteed and ability to cut later?

Smith will be missed but he is not irreplaceable.

The Chiefs put their emphasis on the pass rush and ability to stop the run with DJ and Howard.

I am pretty sure they will line somebody up at CB opposite Marcus Peters, no reason to panic.
