Draft Projection

Round 1: CB - William Jackson III - Houston (6'0" 189)

William_Jackson_III_zpsypzdqdgz.jpg
Jackson is exactly the type of corner John Dorsey has shown he'll target in the draft. Jackson is similar to current Chief Phillip Gaines in that he is a taller corner with good length that can play the football and make plays against the run. Balanced with fluid hips, excellent in transition in man coverage. Excellent quickness and good burst to break on the football. Solid speed to maintain position with most receivers deep, but doesn't appear to have elite speed. Excellent read and react skill set, reading the QB and playing the football. Solid overall technique, not grabby, good transitional footwork, plays man and off man exceptionally well and can play zone. Ideal length, tall with decent bulk but could add 10 pounds. Very solid ball skills, tracks and plays the football well, high points, but does occasionally play through the receiver, which will get him penalties in the NFL. Decent tackler, not afraid of contact. Continued growth as player, especially as a senior. Was JUCO transfer. Potentially a top tier man cover corner in the NFL with solid overall traits for the position.
- Replaces Sean Smith at CB.

Round 2: OL - Germain Ifedi - Texas A&M (6'6" 324)

Germain_Ifedi_zps7td5fcjl.jpg
Ifedi is the big ol' nasty type of lineman that John Dorsey and Andy Reid love to have up front. Ifedi has outstanding height and mass with great arm length. Has outstanding athelticism for a man his size. While having good feet overall, he doesn't have adequate coordination and consistency in his slide to remain outside at tackle. Plays too vertically on the outside, often lunging and leaving an open alley. Shows the hand strength and hip torsion to be a driver blocker in the run game from the guard position if he can stop leaning on defenders. Excellent quickness in his feet to get to the second level and pull/trap. Playing from the inside would allow Ifedi to more easily latch onto defenders with his enormous hands and control the point of attack. Ability to play as swing tackle in a pinch.
- Replaces Jeff Allen/Ben Grubbs at LG, Donald Stephenson at ST.

Round 3: Currently No Selection - Tampering

This is bullshit.

Round 4: LB - Joe Schobert - Wisconsin (6'1" 244)

Joe_Schobert_zpsoakgjgcp.jpg
Schobert is a compact player as an EDGE defender and should continue to fit there as a situation player, but might be best as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense in the NFL unless he can bulk up. Sports a solid first step and good burst to get into defenders quickly. Maintains good balance and uses his hands extremely well to fight off lineman, great hand placement off the snap. Adequate punch but doesn't jolt lineman backwards on initial contact. Good, not elite, closing speed to the ball-carrier. Good recovery speed and change of direction ability to make second effort plays. Sports enough lateral quickness to make plays away from his area. Can get skinny and slip past blockers. Plays the run relatively well, especially for his size, but can get washed out at times based purely on his size. An impact pass rusher. Sports the athletic ability make a move inside, similar to Jaime Collins in New England. Shows enough ability to cover Tight Ends and Running Backs in space. Needs to get stronger, especially in his upper body. Made big plays against two of the better O-lines in college football in Alabama and Iowa. Former walk-on that needs to continue adding weight and muscle, but the desire and abilities are there.
- Backup and heir to Josh Mauga at ILB.

Round 5: SS - K.J. Dillon - West Virginia (6'0" 210)

KJ_Dillon_zpspcvbiwi3.jpg
Dillon is very much like Tyvon Branch with good deep speed and the ability to play man coverage from the slot. Has shown he can play in the box at SS and in single-high at FS; very versatile safety. Excellent size and mass for a safety. Attacks the football at the high point and shows excellent click and close breaks on the football. Excellent run defender, coming up in support. Needs to become a more violent and purposeful tackler, but his overall range and play-making ability make him a perfect fit as a nickle defender.
- Replaces Tyvon Branch at NB.

Round 5: WR - Jaydon Mickens - Washington (5'10" 174)

Jaydon_Mickens_zpsrzy9r9ja.jpg
Mickens is similar Seattle's Tyler Lockett, L.A.'s Tavon Austin, or former Jets' receiver Jeremy Kerley. A smaller guy with insane cut ability that can get open on his route running, while having just enough speed to burn deep. Possesses video game/joystick-like agility in the open field to create large chunks after the catch. Sub-4.5 speed to beat defenders over the top. Sets up routes very well, often able to shake defenders on inside/outside fake and go's. Outstanding bubble screen receiver, showing the ability to set up his blocks and make quick cuts to gain yards. Excellent hands, catching the ball away from his frame primarily. Has shown the ability to take a shot and hold onto the football; tough.
- Replaces D'Anthony Thomas at SLOT.

Round 6: LB - Stephen Weatherly - Vanderbilt (6'4" 267)

Stephen_Weatherly_zps6d4nknyi.jpg
Weatherly is more of a height/weight/speed prospect than he is a guy with insane production, but at this juncture of the draft projects with a high ceiling are highly sought after. Weatherly showed some ability to get after the passer and play behind the LOS in the SEC, but he'll need quite a bit of work from a technique standpoint in order to be a consistent player in the pros. Weatherly has excellent measurables for a 3-4 OLB and could be a surprise edge player in the future. From all accounts he's a smart player and has the will to succeed. He showed a non-stop play style on the field and an outstanding closing burst to the ball carrier.
- Replaces Dezman Moses as developmental EDGE.

Round 7: WR - Chris Moore - Cincinnati (6'1" 206)

Chris_Moore_zpsnyfh9deu.jpg
Moore is a very quick receiver with good vertical speed to threaten defenses at all levels. Extremely productive as a deep threat for the Bearcats, but needs to continue to develop his solid underneath route running to take advantage of his gifted agility. Has very good size and excellent hands, extending to pluck away from his body consistently. Shows an excellent catch radius with the ability to high point the ball in traffic. Excellent tracking on deep balls. Will need to become a stronger, more physical player in the NFL and show the ability to beat man-press coverage. Could be a big-time sleeper prospect with high upside.
- Replaces Jason Avant at WR.

Looks pretty solid.  Any chance Eli Apple would be available at #28?  Also, I haven't given up on getting back that #3.

Doubtful. I think there's a better chance Alexander is there than Apple. Apple is going top 20 easily.

I am not totally sold on Eli Apple. He did well at the combine. The measureables are all there. However, he did not perform up to the numbers on the track. Part of this seems to be his slow response. Some players seem to be slow to recognize, and react. This seems to be the case with Apple. Now, could he develop better instincts? Sure, he could, but that normally happens when a player is new to playing a sport or a position. Apple has been playing cb for a long time. He was a top notch recruit to college. The issues seem to be his mental reaction time, and that cannot be resolved.

Jackson is not without issues, but I actually like him better than Apple. Neither is ideal. Mackensie Alexander may be the best corner in the draft. The knock on him is his lack of ideal size. At 5'10", the Chiefs would have two sub- 6 foot corners, although both guys play bigger than their size. Kendall Fuller is supposed to go higher, but has also been mocked all the way down to the 2nd round. He could slip. Again, Fuller is shy of 6 foot. He also takes chances, and lacks catch up speed. In short, he is similar to Marcus Peters, but not as talented. The safeties better be playing back.

I would be okay with it.

I like Xavien Howard the most, right now, at 28. Need to watch some more tape.

I really like Weatherly as a sleeper pick.

For a late round Safety pick, I would rather use a 4th on TJ Green.

Solid mock, though.
