Not Marc Boerigter - Moritz Boehringer

The Chiefs have eyes on a similar sounding name. Moritz Boehringer reminds one of Marc Boerigter.

Chiefs in love with German WR

The Kansas City Chiefs and a handful of other teams are reportedly in love with a German wide receiver.

It is not often that a guy comes out of virtually nowhere (in this case, Germany) to shock scouts and send shockwaves through the National Football League. Yet, that is apparently what happened on Thursday at the Florida Atlantic University pro day, when Moritz Boehringer went off in a huge way.

Despite coming in at 6-foot-2 and 227 pounds, the German ran the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds and knocked out the 3-cone drill in a ridiculous 6.65 seconds. In fact, all of his measurbales would have put him in the top five of the receivers class this year at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL.com.

Then there was this little nugget in the story…

Chiefs GM John Dorsey, receiving a report from his scout on the ground at FAU, called Boehringer’s agent, Kyle Strongin, in the middle of the workout and requested a visit.

At first, I genuinely thought this was an early April Fool’s joke, but it isn’t. Boehringer is going to be coming to Kansas City for a visit sometime in the future and projects as a third-day pick who is shooting up draft boards. Considering Dorsey loves to think outside the box, this could be a Kansas City selection all the way.

4.43 on grass (cynodon dactylon rather than cannibus sativa), is amazingly fast. It would correlate to 4.35 t0 4.39 on AstroTurf. He did play in a professional league in Germany. He dominated, which should be expected.

Dorsey is the first to bring him in, but there will be others interested. The Minnesota Vikings are planning a visit soon too. MB is eligible for the draft. It's a good thing in one way... the Chiefs don't have the money to get into a speculative pricing war if he was considered to be a free agent. On the other hand, the Chiefs will have to compete against 31 other teams in the draft. How high do you go for a guy like this?

The first thing I would do (if legal) would be to ask the young man to submit to a drug test. Requiring a physical would seem to be necessary as well. I'm not sure how the league would feel if test came back to show he was a psyborg.

Finally, even if he does not make it as a wide receiver, he could help in other positions on the team. The first to come to mind would be TE. At nearly 6'5" he is close to the ideal height. His weight (227 pounds is 10 kg too light), so he would have to beef up. Even if WR or TE is not a hit, he would make an incredible gunner on special teams. So, he is worth a pick no matter what. The question is how high, which round. Jeffrey Janis was a 7th round pick by the Packers in 2014. Janis is a little smaller, but tested on the track nearly the same as MB. Thee thing about Janis was he did well, but did not dominate at his level (DIV II). The other thing is Janis has small hands (9 inches, see Donald Trump for example). Hand size is related to the ability to catch a football, and sometimes the amount of prowess in the bedroom.  No one has asked Moritz about either hand size or the other....
