Mugsy 225
I think Abdullah's retirement threw Dorsey off guard. Strong Safety Donte Whitner was released by the Browns the other day. He is a former pro bowler. He is probably around 30-32 years old. He's lost a step but still packs a punch. Would you bring him in? Do we have the money? I like him. Ideally, I think we need another safety. I know we just signed two safeties and moved Flemming to safety but, we use three safeties a lot in our nickel package. We have been lucky that all three have been competent since Dorsey has been here. I think the current plan is to use Ron Parker in that third safety roll and have him as a back up corner and safety if needed. I think he will be needed at some point and I believe we need a true strong safety. My choice for the first round is Karl "The Hit Man" Joseph, S, West Virginia. He's my favorite player in the draft and I would take him even if we sign a vet. Joseph reminds me of Berry. He is awesome against the run and is solid in pass coverage. PhataLerror 370
I like Donte Whitner, but the Chiefs won't be able to pay him what he will ask for. The Chiefs are indeed better off drafting a safety.
liquidfriend 1,151
I think Whitner is on the verge of a steep decline. The Browns are stupid, yes, but I think thdy might be making the right move by releasing him.
West 6,714
Whitner was a terrific hitter but can not cover the deep ball. He is past his prime. Niners said this a couple of years ago, and they were right. w
