Opening Day Predictions - For Our Heros

Recommended Posts

It is the slow time, but with the OTA line ups, I think it would be fun to go on the record with predictions. Since it is Memorial Day weekend (the most awesome holiday there is). I will donate $500 to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in the name of the winner. Anyone wants to sweeten it, cool. Only one entry and only opening day starters, but all 3 QB positions (order doesn't matter). Injury is what it is. First play of the first game, who is on the field. Cut off is July 4th. (of course). USA baby!

QB: Smith, Murray, Bray

Oline: Fisher, Schwartz, Morse, LDT, Ehinger

TE: Kelce

FB: none

RB: Charles

WR: Maclin, Streeter, Wilson

Dline: Poe, Bailey, Howard

LB: DJ, Hali, Ford, Mauga

CB: Peters, Gaines

S: Berry, Parker

I think this is significantly different for the first playoff game, but that's not what this is about.

I don't care about the dealine. I just said the 4th because it seemed patriotic. I think it should be before camp. Camp injuries cane really shake this up. I think there is a real possibility that Father Time starts to catch up with players like DJ and Hali and they have more injuries. Charles, Gaines, Houston are wild cards for injuries. DAT and Morse could get another concussion during preseason and miss time or retire.

OK, since nobody has weighed in yet, I am changing my my picks. More aggressive.

QB: Smith, Murray, Bray (Hogan practice squad)

Oline: Fisher, Schwartz, Morse, LDT, Ehinger

TE: Kelce (should have a base O with 2 TEs, but don't)

FB: none

RB: Charles

WR: Maclin, Streeter, Robinson (Conley beat out and DAT retires because of concussions)

Dline: Poe, Bailey, Howard

LB: DJ, Hali, Ford, Wilson

CB: Peters, Russell (Gaines returns to the tub. Damn it.)

S: Berry, Parker

That looks like a reasonable lineup, except do you really think they're going to put Schwartz, one of the best young RTs in the league, at guard? That would shock me.

I would be treating basically copying what you put down and maybe switching out Wilson for Conley if needed. So I will pass, but I'm interested in what other people say.

That's where I am.  Conley is a freak athlete with more upside for that reason alone.   He may beat out Wilson, if his head has developed enough.  Streater will make it. He is best right in Alex's range and has experience.  A slot guy.

Chiefs will have a potent offense.  All of their RB's can catch.  Two of their TE's can catch.  Several WR's can catch the ball.  Alex will have his pick, and any team who tries to cover them all will get their asses kicked by Jamaal and Ware in the running game.  Should be fun to watch.

The Chiefs may suddenly be deep at TE. Harris is a better blocker than receiver, but has decent hands too. The surprise will be Travis, who runs 4.6, and has great hands. He may be the 2nd best TE, and the 2nd best receiver on the team (after Maclin).

Ware and West will compliment Charles

Wilson, Conley, Hill, and Robinson complete the WRs

Bray and Hogan will back up Smith (unless there is another mysterious injury again)

O'shaugnessy is not a lock to make this team. Parker may edge him out if they keep four.

Fulton, and Reid are the reserves on the OL.

Sherman may not make this squad. He has been declining, and Ware can do much of what Sherman does.

There will be surprises. I would not discount the Chiefs bringing in a backup QB.

I like the gutsy call on Travis. Don't forget the D, E.

I only concentrated on the O.

Reid said he would put the best receiver on the field, no matter the position. Travis is impressive. Streater, Travis, and Kelse would be hard to stop. I don't know how you stop that. No one can match up physically, and when their defense compensates by doubling up, Charles will gash huge gains.

Wilson, Conley, Robinson, and maybe Williams complete the WR crew.

Harris is the third TE. O'Shaughnessy, and Parker will battle it out for the fourth TE, if they go that deep. It could be a decision between keeping 6 WR or keeping 4 TE.

Tyreek Hill could fight it out for the final WR. In that case, the Chiefs may decide to keep both Hill and DAT. If Hill, with pads, can do what he did without the pads, he will play a lot opposite Maclin. In that case, they will not waste him as a return specialist.

Most of the value of Sherman has been special teams.  No one else is even close in ST tackles.  Sherman may not be in the offense much at all, but he will remain the most potent of the ST players.

Yup. Sherman isn't going anywhere.
