SEA vs. KC - What are you watching?

Recommended Posts

March has to stay healthy...but he has upside so far.

Of course, he could just be Boomer Grigsby.

It's the preseason.

Well, I am excited he's earned his spot with the ones. He was starting next to DJ at today's practice. If he keeps making plays, he'll be there from here on out.

The Chiefs may play a lot of 4-3 until Houston returns. In fact, they might continue to play in a 4-3 formation, when and if Houston returns. Sutton always preferred the 4-3 formation. Jones (signed through (signed through 2019), Bailey (signed through 2018), and Howard (signed through 2017). This gives the Chiefs a solid base for the next two or three years. Tamba Hali played DE for the Chiefs, in the past, and he is signed through 2018. For this year, the Chiefs have Poe, and he can play in the 4-3 as a DT/NT. Nick Williams may be a decent DE. The Chiefs can turn the defensive front over this year, and put the heat off their replacement OLB, since Dee Ford is not at all ready to take over for Houston.

Sutton can run whatever he wants, but Reid is used to have run a 4-3, and Sutton actually was known to have run a 4-3 hybrid. So, I don't know why you want to always be wrong, but you seem to be good at it. So, keep at it, if it works for you.

The Chiefs changed from 4-3 to 3-4. They overhauled the system, and Andy Reid was not about to turn it over again. However, over a period of time, the Chiefs have added players who can run the 4-3, and they run it about as much as they run the 3-4. At one time, the Chiefs lacked depth at ILB, and were not as deep on the DL. Things are different now. Without Houston for the first part of the year, and because Dee Ford does not seem to give a crap, the Chiefs may want to utilize their personnel to their advantage (which would be to run more 4-3.

Reid has always kept his hands off the defense. The 4-3 you speak of was Jim Johnson's, one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time. Also, it wasn't just a 4-3. It was a hybrid 4-3 / 5-2. The idea was to blitz all the time. Even on running downs and Especially on third down.

Sutton runs a 3-4. Actually, we run a hybrid 3-4 / 3-3-5 / 2-4-5 if you really think about it. We are in the nickel package close to 70% of the time. Why would he make such a big change to only run it like 10% of the time? Furthermore, we don't have the outside linebackers to run a 4-3. Our linebackers are big and slow for the most part. Last, Sutton isn't a big third down blitzer.

I just don't see it. We aren't going to go to a 4-3.
