Did you cut & paste this from 5 years ago? I hear this every year. I wouldn't mind having Prescott or Carr for the next 10 years. But Reid or Dorsey didn't see their talent. Now there will be those who say they benefit by an O line. Well the O line isn't throwing the football and these guys are trying to win games. There are a QB or 2 in this draft that will be the same.

The point is they have to figure out a way to spend something like 35 more million in cash this year... which means there gonna have to restructure someone.. also theres still 7 million or so hanging on a backup qb.. that won't be around....

I think Dorsey will grab 2-3 corners in the draft.  It is a DEEP class this year.  He can get 2nd round graded corners in the 4th. 

 

Gaines, Acker and Mitchell are only signed through '17.  Nelson through '18.  DJ White through '19.

Ron Parkers deal shoots up to 7m next year and I'd be surprised if they pay that much. I haven't seen them have an actual opinion of Murray yet.

The Chiefs are looking at QB's harder than I've ever seen.  Between that and them going out of their way to say Alex is the starter for 2017, I think they both see the weakness on the team. Not a lock for Thursday, but I expect to see a new face by the end of Friday. 

 

If Mahomes or Watson are around, it's gonna happen.  Mahomes seems like the lovechild of Favre and Romo to me.

 

2.  Tim Williams, DE/OLB  Alabama

 

Andy will roll the dice on a problem player every year and this year it will be Williams. 

 

3.1. ArDarius Stewart, WR  Alabama

 

A strong YAC receiver that will fight for the ball; seems to be lost in how deep this draft class is overall.  Dorsey will be looking for a Maclin replacement.

 

3.2. Kendell Beckwith, ILB  LSU

 

A bit of a gamble because of the ACL and ACL injury for this squad might as well be super aids.  What I do know is that he's a strong backer that will make his presence known and set the tone.  Has a ton of potential being able to learn from a top tier ILB and high end positional coach.

 

4.1.  Eddie Jackson, S  Alabama

 

An eventual Ron Parker replacement that can also play S and CB.

 

4.2.  Rasul Douglas, CB  West Virginia

-Chiefs part with a 6th rounder to slide up-

 

A one year wonder, but excellent size and excels as a press man corner.

 

5.2. De'Veon Smith, RB  Michigan

 

A very underrated RB.  Showed that he can block and catch passes.  Hard runner.  Has the size and power to be a short yardage specialist, while possessing the agility to turn it for a big gain if he gets a crease.  Could end up being one of the bigger steals in the draft.

 

6. Stanley Williams, RB  Kentucky

 

A sleeper prospect that has big play potential.

 

7.  Josh Augusta, DL  Missouri

 

A big body project.

 

A lot of SEC players, which is what Dorsey tends to favor.

Tim Williams is a big risk. He had character issues, and problems with guns. Although he is a fantastic player, I have him off my draft board.

 

I have watched a lot of Mahomes. I have watched hours, and hours of his games. He is intriguing, but is really frustrating to watch. I do know he has a solid arm, but he will not be ready this year, next year, or maybe even the year after. He is a long term project, and I heard he isn't coachable. Of QBs this year, he has the most elite arm. Josh Allen is similar, but Allen will have one more year in college to hone his skills. Allen's head coach, and QB coach are better.

 

The same can be said of Davis Webb, and Jerod Evans. Davis was ahead of Mahomes, but got injured, and Texas Tech was never satisfied with Webb, due to stupid on field errors. Texas Tech would not release Davis from his commitment to TT, so he graduated, and transferred to Cal. I thought he was maybe better than Mahomes at CAL. Evans is in the same category. He has better character, and is a better leader. I am not for drafting any of the prospects in the first round. Kizer is probably the best of the lot. He was horrible last year, and may be worth a 2nd Rd pick. Evans would be worth a late 4th or 5th.

 

Kizer has a lot to work on, but I think he will be ready to start sooner than Mahomes, and may be better.

One thing I like about Webb transcends his talent, and that is he was resilient. Here is a guy who was supposed to be the starter. Things didn't go as he would have liked. He got injured. Mahomes took his place. He was never, ever given another shot. He tried to transfer, but TT wouldn't let him. Instead, he finished school, and became a graduate transfer. He had other options, and actually signed a letter of intent to Colorado. To compare strength of schedule, I used a weekly ranking system that ranked the top 128 teams. I used the ranking for the week in which the team played. There were two unranked teams at the time of the game. So, I used their final rank to determine what they may have been. I tossed their opening games to pansy teams.

 

None of these three teams played a difficult schedule. Kicking out the first games (Liberty, SFA, and Hawaii - all unranked), the teams each played 11 qualifying teams.

Texas Tech lost badly to Iowa State, which was unranked for most of the season

Cal got pounded by lowly Oregon State. (OSU was not ranked part of the year).

The worst loss for Virginia Tech was against Syracuse. The Syracuse team was 75th at the time.

 

Evans put 49 points on Boston College. Boston College had a strong defense (9th in the nation despite giving up 49 points to VA Tech). Their 82nd ranking was due to their offense, which was putrid. His worst game against highly ranked team was against Tennessee, who was rated #13 at the time. Evans had just won the starting job, and this was his first exposure to a good NCAA defense. Head to head, Evans defeated Trubisky's team 34 - 3. North Carolina led by Trubisky. His best game was a loss to Clemson. The much better Clemson overpowered Virginia Tech, but Evans played well. He almost brought the Cavaliers back for a tie with about one minute to go.

On the surface, Watson outplayed Evans. However, there are a couple considerations. First, Clemson was a much better team. In fact, they took apart Alabama, and won the championship. Also, Evans played from behind the entire game. He was continually under pressure. He threw two interceptions.

 

The first was in the second half, with 6 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter, and VA Tech down by 2 touchdowns. Evans was under pressure, and escaped. The DE and OLB for Clemson Stunted, and the DE overpowered Evans' RT. At the same time pressure came from the left side as a ILB delay blitzed, and was coming free against the LT. With the DE in his face, Evans launched a pass to the sidelines. Hodges was not clearly open, but he enjoyed a height advantage, and should have had better position to make a catch. Evans' pas was where it should have been placed, despite throwing off his back foot. Hodges' sloppy footwork allowed the defender to have inside position, and Cordrea Tankersly made an incredible play.

 

The second interception happened with only 1:11 remaining in the final quarter. The Cavaliers were down to 4th and 6. Pressure came right up through the middle. Evans was hit as he threw, and the pass was off. It was an impossible situation.

 

Considering the talent on both teams, Evans played as well as Watson. He did not have a clean pocket, and  was facing a much bigger challenge. Evans only played one season at the FBS level. He left to early. It would have been better if he could have stayed another year. He is not worthy a 1st round selection. The arm strength is there. His pocket presence is good. His footwork is horrible. He needs experience. He is well worth a 4th round selection.

There is no comparison between Webb and Mahomes. Mahomes actually does some really good things that aren't that teachable, like going through all of his progressions. Hell Alex Smith doesn't even do that.

 

Kid has a live arm and is accurate enough. Horrible, just horrible footwork which affects his accuracy. He got away with it a lot due to amazing arm strength. Don't know how quickly that can be fixed but it is fixable.

 

The ingredients that you have to have out of a QB are there. Football IQ, accuracy, ability to read through progressions, pocket presence... all that he has. The size and rocket arm are gravy, as is his exceptional scrambling.

 

I would be ok if we traded up a bit for Mahomes. I think Andy could do wonders with him.

 

Webb is very meh.
