We can't catch a break

Recommended Posts

The Kansas City Chiefs will kick off Chargers week without Justin Houston. The Chiefs star outside linebacker will not

practice the Chiefs on Wednesday, an ominous sign for his availability on Sunday against the Chargers.

Houston didn’t practice at all last week. Andy Reid’s tone seemed to change midway through last week’s prep. After the

Broncos game (Houston didn’t play), Reid didn’t know if Houston would be back this week ... or this year.

Dee Ford, Tamba Hali and Frank Zombo are the next men up at outside linebacker if Houston can’t go again. The Chiefs

can win without Houston, who has only played in five games this season.

It’s certainly not ideal but the Chiefs can get by San Diego without him. But can they get by New England or Pittsburgh

without him? That’s the longer term question here.

Not practicing today doesn't mean he won't play Sunday, but it's not a good sign.  Maybe if the Chiefs playoff chances depended on winning over the Chargers, he would tough it out.  The way it is now, they just may give him another week off to try to get rid of the inflamation.

Which is another reason to play everybody else this weekend and hope Oakland loses. It would give Houston another week to heal

I'm just upset that this will probably set us back in the future when it comes to signing elite level talent.  Finally sign a guy to a 100 million dollar contract, and he basically misses one season in his first two.  Its reasons like this that we didn't pull the trigger on Berry last year...and its gonna cost us...

Uh what? That's absolute nonsense.

Berry didn't get paid a year ago because he wanted CB money.

No...he wanted top safety money. He wanted a raise from his rookie deal considering he made the pro bowl every year except when he tore his ACL or had cancer. Not too much to ask...not his fault he was the last year of insane 1st round contracts.

He wanted to be by far the highest paid Safety in the NFL. Harrison in Minnesota is making around 11.5, and he wanted an amount North of that.

That would be high end CB money.

Mathieu is making 12.5 a year on average.  He outplayed his rookie contract and got a raise.  I guess Berry, whose numbers destroy his, doesn't deserve to get paid more...Berry knew Mathieu was going to get a contract like this and wanted to be compensated the same...I can't blame the guy...but  you can't compare him to CB money instead of S money in this argument.  He wants paid what he feels he's worth, and as much as KC has always debated this, he has been hands down the best Safety in the league over the course of his career.  Yes, others have dominated for a season or two...then then they dropped off.  Berry has been the only consistent...and he looks like he hasn't even his prime yet...
