Jerod Evans VA Tech - Only FBS Year

Recommended Posts

Watch the nifty ball skills. Jerod Evans has good hands. His ball fakes were impressive. Tennessee won the game, but it was Evans' first game against a top team in the FBS. It was only his second start.

VA Tech's wide receiver fumbled away two times after what would have been first down on both instances. Also, watch Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs. I think he is definitely worth a look. He is smart, tall, and an athlete. Dobbs may become an NFL QB, but if not, he likely has the skills to play some at receiver. Dobbs is an excellent athlete with good size.

Jerod Evans' 3rd game at VA Tech. He played against one of the best defenses in the country.

Watch his touch on the ball. Also, he zips the ball in there when needed. Evans sells the screen, and looks off receivers. Watch where he puts the ball on the back of the end zone play. The only person catching that pass is the receiver. Ideal ball placement. Evans uses his blockers, as he patiently sets up runs. Evans is not fast, but he knows where to go, and how to use blockers. His only INT was on the receiver on a tipped pass.

Jerod Evans' 4th game vs East Carolina. Watch his back shoulder pass. His long touchdown run was impressive. He used blockers, and wove through the defense to score. He kept his balance, and was able to sustain his run despite being hit.

Watch the spin on the ball. Evans throws a clean pass that is easy to catch, even with some mustard behind it. He has a beautiful fake, that helps the runner get in for a TD. Throws to spots where only his receiver can get the pass.

He lost to Dobbs. Then Evans beat Trubinsky head to head. This time he defeated Peterman at Pitt. Evans threw for 406 yards at Pitt compared to 267 for Nathan Peterman. Peterman played a decent game statistically. Evans had a much better adjusted QBR, and if I could have shown his all 22, you would have seen Evans is the better field general, especially on this day.

Evans was off most of the day. He was wide to Hodges, but the TE bailed him out with a catch. Evans showed mental toughness, and determination. While not on target most of the game, Evans garnered several first down runs, and a touchdown.

Jerod Evans threw two interceptions, and there were two other turnovers from his teammates. Other than against North Carolina, this may have been his worst performance of the year. He did have two touchdown runs, and a touchdown pass.

He handled the loss as a pro. Watch the post game press conference. He's a grown man. Wants to win, but doesn't throw people under the bus.

The Cavaliers played a really bad game against an inferior team at home in a loss to Georgia Tech. They could have wrapped up a championship. Everything went wrong. Now, VA Tech has to travel to South Bend to play the Golden Domers. Evans beat Trubinsky, Peterman, and Kaaya. Evans lost to Tennessee Vol Josh Dobbs. This time, he is tasked with beating DeShone Kizer, the fifth top ten QB in the 2017 draft. It was the last game for Notre Dame, and it was a nationally televised game. The Irish played one of their best games of the year. Evans looked hurt by the end of the Georgia Tech game, and was shaky at the start of the ND game. The Irish jumped out ahead in wintry conditions.

Jerod Evans played 5 of the top ten quarterbacks, and only lost to 1. Kizer was out dueled on a cold, windy day. Evans was victimized by mistakes by his teammates, including a pass that should have been a huge gainer, but was tipped, up, and intercepted. Again, the snap from center was unsure. Several popped over Evans' head.

Virginia, a bad team in 2016, lost to VA Tech in a blowout.
