Chiefs release OL Jah Reid

Recommended Posts

The Kansas City Chiefs announced the release of offensive lineman Jah Reid on Thursday.

This moves comes one day after the team traded for OL Cameron Erving. The Chiefs sent a 2018 fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in order to acquire Erving.

Reid, 29, has been the Chiefs’ swing tackle for the past two seasons. KC signed him to a three-year, $10.2 million contract extension in 2015 and has also used him as an emergency guard at times.

Reid struggled mightily during the 2017 preseason causing many to speculate his eventual release. He was set to earn $3.5 million in 2017 and almost $4 million in 2018 so a release made sense. The Erving trade all but confirmed that Reid would eventually be cut.

With his release, Reid will only be owed $1.55 million in dead money over the next two years and the Chiefs save almost $6 million against the cap. Erving will likely take his place as the team’s swing tackle and emergency guard.

so now we have almost 14 mill in cap space? We should've kept maclin!

Absolutely, but done is done. Dorsey is gone. We would be in such good shape WR wise if we had him and Hill starting. Everyone says that's not why he was fired, but I think it was the last straw.
