Chiefs lose three scouts to Browns

Recommended Posts

One of the biggest downsides to losing a member of the front office or coaching staff is that there’s often a domino effect — once one guy goes, more of his “guys” follow.

That’s currently happening with the Chiefs right now as three scouts have left Kansas City’s front office to join former Chiefs general manager and current Browns GM John Dorsey in Cleveland.

Those three are college scouting coordinator Dan Zegers, pro scout Jim Noel and area scout Matt Donahoe. Noel will move up to assistant director of pro scouting with the Browns while Zegers and Donahoe will hold the same roles as they did in K.C.

Browns also announced the hiring of Chiefs scout Matt Donahoe

When Dorsey was fired from K.C. and later hired as the Browns’ GM, it was expected that he’d take some of his personnel scouts with him. Every GM does that when making a move.

So unless there has been some detailed reporting we basically lost all their scouting for the year.

How so? They still did their jobs while here so we have that still. Sure they will take it also to Cleveland, but they don't run our system either. We will gain too when we hire others to will these positions from other teams etc

Well what they did for us is now available for the Browns as well so we don't have an edge over them. All three already know some of the guys we focused throughout the season and Browns have more ammo than us. They could pull the trigger ahead of us and we might lose some Hill-type guys the front office is targeting.

That being said if Veach was aware of such an intent we may have gotten less service from these guys over the course of the season.
