NFL changing rules for what's a catch?

TL:DR = 3 big changes are being recommended by the rules committee and are expected to be adopted by owners next week:

1. Slight movement of the football would now be allowed— Previously, if a football wiggled even the slightest bit, it was considered that the player did not have control.

2. The receiver would no longer be required to maintain control when he hits the ground— The "surviving the ground" standard is going to be eliminated. A catch could be awarded under the new rule if the player establishes control before hitting the ground, even if the ball comes loose after contact with the turf.

3. It would be harder for replay officials to overturn a catch— Under the current system, reply reviews only needed to be "clear and obvious" to be overturned. Under the new rule, the standard would reverse back to the original "indisputable evidence" standard.

Maybe they should also define what's a fumble or forward progress. Maybe look at pick plays as well. Hey what about holding, that would be a novel concept.

My point, as long as people are involved in the decision making process there will always be disputed calls and as long as big money is involved there will always be conspiracy theories.

Dude the catch rule has been a big pile of shit since they changed the rules. Everybody knows what holding is. Nobody knows what a catch is under the current rules. That's not good. This is a much needed change. It was so bad they put together a special committee of ex players, coaches and owners to figure it out. They're the ones that recommended these changes to the competition committee.

I just don’t understand why a catch at mid field and a catch in the end zone needed to be 2 different things.

Yup, that made ZERO sense. This is a huge step in the right direction.

Now fix replay so it can be used on any play, any call, at any time...you just only get 2 max of 3 if the 2 previous challenges are won like it is now.

Why don't they either do away with challenges or have unlimited as long as you win the challenge. If you lose two your done.

How many times have you seen shitty calls and a team have to waste a challenge on an obviously shitty call. Basically the team is doing to refs job.

Agree. And take it out of the onfield refs hand. Just use the replay office to make all the calls.
