Chiefs defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches is one of the only NFL restricted free agents who has yet to sign his free agent tender.

Now, there is some conflicting reporting on this situation as Spotrac has Nunez-Roches signing a contract early last month.

“MAR 14 2018
Signed a 1 year $1.907 million contract with Kansas City (KC)”

This is interesting because Nunez-Roches reported to the Chiefs’ facility for offseason training already. So it would seem that he has either signed a contract with the team or he is working toward one.

Restricted free agency allows for players to negotiate with other teams after a team places a tender on them. Nunez-Roches received a low-round tender, which means that it wouldn’t cost another team draft capital to sign him.

Teams can no longer sign restricted free agents, though. The period in which teams could negotiate with the Chiefs defensive lineman has expired. As of April 20, Nunez-Roches can no longer negotiate with other NFL teams. This means that his rights have officially reverted back to the Chiefs and they have exclusivity over his negotiations.

If Nunez-Roches hasn’t signed a deal yet, this could indicate that the team is working toward something long term.

Nunez-Roches still appears to be extremely committed to the Chiefs and his teammates. Just take a peek at his social media and you’ll get the idea of the type of player and teammate he is.

Whatever the contract situation is, it is safe to say that Nunez-Roches will remain a Chief. Chiefs Kingdom definitely echoes his sentiments in the tweet above: bring on the NFL Draft and bring home a Super Bowl ring.

I wouldn't mind giving him a long term deal for a decent amount. Not sure if he's ready to be a starter or ever will be but a decent rotational guy is always useful. We benefited from existence of guys like Abdullah, a similar approach for RNR makes sense IMO.

Nacho is a guy the coaches love. Evidently he's a bundle of energy. He's been decent overall. Certainly replaceable but most guys are.

He's great for the chemistry of the team.  Just brightens everyone's mood, sees everything as evidence of great things on the way.
