Kansas City Chiefs brings back Stefan Charles for defensive line depth by Matt Conner30 minutes agoFollow @MattConnerAA Tweet Share x Comment The Kansas City Chiefs have re-signed Stefan Charles after releasing him in a move that gives the team a bit more defensive line depth.The bottom of the Kansas City Chiefs roster has been a busy carousel going around and around signing and releasing players left and right as the team settles on which rookie free agents it wants to keep. The latest example is the team announcing that it has re-signed defensive tackle Stefan Charles shortly after releasing him two days ago (along with Akeem Hunt). Interestingly, Hunt was also brought back on Thursday after going unclaimed on waivers. He was subsequently placed on the Chiefs’ Physically Unable to Play (PUP) list. Advertisement Life's Tasty. Ad by Lay's Kettle Cooked The release of Rakeem Nunez-Roches provides nearly $2 million of cap relief, while Charles provided no such relief which is potentially why he is back and not RNR. Charles has been on and off of the Chiefs roster since over a year ago as the team sorts out its defensive line. The Canadian veteran is talented enough to earn a spot time and again but the Chiefs have also clearly tried to upgrade overall. Credit Charles for continuing to earn a look despite so many others coming and going on a more permanent basis. Charles provides another veteran body to put at defensive tackle with his mammoth size at 6’5, 320 lbs. The Chiefs added Derrick Nnadi in the draft along with Justin Hamilton and Jarvis Jenkins already on the roster. There are also rookie free agents like Dee Liner still present in minicamp.
