The Indianapolis Colts have been awarded former Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Rakeem Nunez-Roches off waivers. Nunez-Roches, 6-foot-2, 307 pounds, was waived in what was believed to be as a result of their salary cap situation.

The fourth-year defender was drafted in the sixth round by the Chiefs in 2015 which naturally makes GM Chris Ballard very familiar with the skill set he brings to the table.

This is just another move by the second-year GM in which he has continued to work on bringing the lines on both sides of the ball up to a competitive level for the 2018 season.

Nunez-Roches also has some versatility along the defensive line which has become something that the Colts will be looking hard for as the ability to move inside and back outside according to the situation will be critical for the defense to remain unpredictable.

The Indianapolis Colts now have a very crowded defensive end position as they already drafted Tyquan Lewis and Kemoko Turay, added Chris McCain earlier in the week.

Nunez-Roches, though, comes out of a 3-4 base defense in Kansas City and will be more of an interior defensive lineman in the Colts new four-man front. He’ll be battling for a rotational role against Hassan Ridgeway and Grover Stewart.

Josh Perry played in 2 games with the Colts last season after seeing action in 15 the previous season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite the crowded position group, Ballard will continue to attempt to improve this roster week in and week out throughout his tenure. Colts fans have to love this continuous hunger to improve the product getting put on the field.
