Glad we signed this guy.    Some speculating that we had him mocked to us in the draft.  Ex-Giants player.

Former East Carolina standout Davon Grayson signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday.

Grayson's deal with Kansas City comes after an initial agreement with the New York Giants fell through at the last minute just before last weekend's minicamp. A priority free agent, Grayson had several other suitors before inking a deal with the Chiefs. He visited the Tennessee Titans and also had interest from the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans and Detroit Lions, among others.

A native of Suffolk, Va., Grayson was always looked at as a potential draft pick throughout the later stages of his ECU career, but some inconsistency may have slid the receiver off some draft boards over the past few weeks. When on the field, Grayson was productive. As a senior in 2017, one year after missing the entire 2016 campaign with a back injury, Grayson finished with career-bests in receptions (59), receiving yards (886) and touchdowns (six). It was a quality bounce-back season for the receiver, who looked as if he was going to enjoy a breakout year in 2016 alongside Zay Jones and enter the draft in 2017. Instead, the back injury put things on hold after a 2015 campaign where he caught 33 passes for 448 yards and three touchdowns.

As a true freshman in 2013, Grayson's career started with a bang, catching three touchdowns against Old Dominion in his first collegiate game. He ended up making 18 receptions for 176 yards and four scores before a knee injury cut his rookie season in college short. As a sophomore in 2014, the lingering knee injury showed some side effects with Grayson's game. He started 10 games but reeled in only 25 throws for 257 yards for the season.

Grayson's 6-foot-1, 199-pound frame makes for an ideal build of an NFL receiver, and he impressed scouts at the NFL Combine and ECU's Pro Day with his crisp route-running and hands. Grayson turned in sold test results at the NFL Combine, recording a 4.51 40-yard dash, 19 repetitions on the bench press and a vertical leap of 34.5 inches.

The Chiefs waived wide receiver Jordan Smallwood to make room for Grayson. Kansas City has 12 other receivers on its roster, including Sammy Watkins, Tyreek HillDe'Anthony Thomas, Demarcus Robinson and Chris Conley, meaning the former Pirate wide out will have to earn his way on the team with a strong offseason performance.
