Its nice to finally have a call like that go for us. They got flag happy with all the holds and then suddenly swallowed their flags on that last drive when our guys got held just as badly. dhitter 1,426
Mahomes "willed" his team to a victory. That is what franchise QB's have to do sometimes. This guy is so legit that as a Chiefs fan I am having trouble even accepting he is our quarterback. Kansas CIty Chiefs right? Our team has this guy? soonerborn77 276
I'm still in disbelief but at the same time I'm starting to after 30 years to reset my expectations because we finally got ourselves a QB that makes everyone around him better. I don't even care that the defense can't cover, tackle or game plan worth a lick....

What was the other stat also, no 300 yard QB's in 4-5 years or something like that. Love it

Mloe68 1,521
Just saw this was also the highest rated MNF game in over a year. So Mahomes impact isn't just local either.
liquidfriend 1,151
The no call was fine. One ref is assigned to watch the clock and has to turn around and see where the ball is once it hits 00. Depends how quick the referee is to react to the clock. Shit happens every single week.
reesebobby 5,663
Not that it shouldn’t be called, but delay of game is basically the only penalty that doesn’t give an unfair advantage to the team committing it. Missed holds or pass interference affect the outcome of the play. Delay is not such an animal.

Assuming they run the same call, 5 more yards hardly mattered. Does anyone think Mahomes would NOT have pulled that game out because of a 5 yard delay of game penalty? Thought not. Adamixoye 604
Delay of game is always inexact, as the cliche goes, they look at the clock then they look at the play, so there's always an extra fraction of a second of fudge time. Now maybe it shouldn't be that way and maybe the NFL should make it a point of emphasis or institute some other system, but it is what it is for now. We got an extra-long fraction of a second compared to the usual but nothing ridiculous. Plus, that didn't decide the game. Worst case scenario we have two downs to get 12 yards. There's a very realistic, even probable scenario, where we still score but bleed more time off the clock.
reesebobby 5,663
Speaking of inexact. One thing I have always found kind of funny. They eyeball where to set the chains from across the field after the kick return. One ref eyeballs the spot and then underhands a throw halfway across the field to where another ref eyeballs his interpretation of where the first ref eyeballed his spot. They do this over and over. It's all completely loosie goosie until they come in and measure. Then it's like they are building cabinets.

After a kick, the only thing that matters is how much field is left until scoring and whether it's 70 yds. or 69 probably doesn't affect the outcome all that much. Measuring for a first down is critical since it's determining ball possession. After a first down is made, it's no big deal if the ball is mis-marked by a few inches. reesebobby 5,663
It matters where they set the chains. And it matters where they spot the ball each time. And it matters where the ball is placed every play. Because after three downs you have to advance ten yards from that spot. If they set the chains too far forward, you have to advance the ball 10 yards plus how ever far off they were. Vice versa if too far back. Everything about a first down is an estimate until they bring out the chains.
jetlord 10,210
My mistake. I though you were commenting on where the ball was spotted. Of course, it matters a great deal that the chains are aligned with the ball after a first down.
