He has been a dominant, game changing pass rusher this year. If you are talking about his entire body of work and looking at stats only, then yes, he is a decent pass rusher at best. The player we are seeing right now is one of the better pass rushers in football. He has good rushes this year and got some nice pressure but not as consistently. Dominant would be exaggerating it. He's still lost in power rush. IMO he's much better than he has been previously but still has a long way to go before dominance. We would need him to add more to his repertoire and do it from both sides to be more than decent. That being said any pure pass rusher is a situational guy in KC since the position demands much more. Overall he has been below average at OLB and one of the primary reasons we can't stop the run. Not entirely his fault as it's the toughest position to learn in the NFL but that doesn't change the end product.
FANATIC 852
Franchise for 1 year. See if he can put two years together. Lower risk & plenty of cap room in 2019.

Calichief 3,020
May be forced to franchise him if you can’t replace him. Pass rush is imperative.
Lamardirts 2,121
What are his stats on the left side compared to the right? Like other said I would be leary of overpaying him big bucks with his injuries issues. Also isn’t that the reason we drafted Kpass and Speaks for when he leaves? Chiefswinitall 60
Guaranteed contracts should be banned over a couple a mill year. These players can retire and don't need guarantees. Go basketball or baseball if you want guaranteed contracts.

Okiechief1 425
What we do with Ford probably will depend on the development of Kpass and Speaks. If are showing they can step in Ford is probably gone, if not franchise him. Not to terribly worried about his run D because with this offense teams are going to be forced to pass more against us and put up points. In today's game it's much more important to have a guy that can pressure the QB and get sacks.
xen 1,010,220
Draft another pass rusher if they need to rather than resigning Ford. Probably need to do that anyway for when they inevitably cut Houston. Any big contracts coming up need to go to some of our younger drafted guys coming up for contracts, like Hill, Fuller or Stone Cold Jones.

I would be more inclined to draft an OLB that can also rush the passer. They are harder to find and generally go early on but that seems to be what we need in the position. T.J. Watt was a late 1st pick and pretty much what we need in the position.
jetlord 10,210
The Chiefs, hopefully, will be drafting pretty late and stud pass rushers/OLBs don't last long. Don't know what might be available in FA, but if Speaks and Kpass can fill starting spots, that might be the way to go and use two of the first three picks on DBs. FANATIC 852
Dee Ford, not Khalil Mack, leads NFL in pressures, says PFF 31 The numbers confirm: Dee Ford is one of the best EDGE rushers in the NFL right now. By Pete Sweeney Oct 9, 2018, 12:57pm CDT YET I WOULD STILL JUST FRANCHISE TAG HIM Fanatic

I doubt they would send him packing unless we get a pick in return. The year after is only 1.5 in dead money. Since we only have 2 youngsters at the position I doubt they will create a new hole by sending him next season even if both guys emerge as starters. We already need a new starter at DL (replace Bailey), a few in secondary, and possibly at ILB depending on Ragland's situation. Unless a Miller or Watt type prospect falls to our laps in the draft I think Houston is safe for 2019.
artsy 1,137
Definitely would not resign Ford....Maybe franchise tag. Use the 1st rd draft pick on a pass rusher and 2nd rd pick on a CB. You can't be a "sucker" for a guy playing in his contract year. IMO, if we paid Ford, he would never make it a full season. And there we would be with over a 1/3 of the CAP tied up in 3 guys who haven't played a full season in 4 years. (Berry, Houston and Ford) No.

That would be the definition of a sucker move. Let him walk and let someone over pay for him or at least set the market to see if you want to try and sign him for a lesser $$. I do (emphasize the "Maybe" on franchise tagging him) Everyone wants to ask what do we have if we let him walk??? A rookie. We can go draft one in the first or second rnd. A real one. Not some damn 4th rd DT project player.
