Chiefs signed RB Charcandrick West.

Kansas City was expected to sign C.J. Anderson, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports they are going with West. It makes sense considering West spent the last four seasons including most of training camp this year with the team, so he should know the playbook and be able to help immediately. Kansas City going with West over Anderson is great news for Spencer War

I wonder if Anderson didn't pass his physical.

I think ware looks exactly like he did before his knee injury. A solid downhill runner. The dude was never able to create anything on his own. We need to see what we have in the young Williams before we commit to drafting one.

He’s a guy that can occasionally rip off a seven to ten yard run if the hole is there, but the majority of his touches are going to go for one to three yards. That’s a definite downgrade.

Id rather work in Darrel Williams (he’s the rookie, right?) than see West on the field.  Hopefully West is nothing more than an insurance policy if someone were to get hurt.  Ware just seems slow , and doesn’t break tackles either, so he doesn’t really have a niche. He’s the kind of average rb Denver cycled through for years in their zone blocking scheme where the rb just hit the hole and took whatever yardage the line gave him.  That really doesn’t fit what our offense does.

In 2016 Ware was 15th in the league in breaking tackles. So at his best he can run through some people. He's a really good blocker and generally a solid player if the knee is right. He looked pretty darn slow though until that Cleveland game where he did actually show some signs he may be healthy.  As a purpose for comparison though Kareem led the NFL in breaking tackles this year and is clearly much more explosive. So its elite vs average. We are going to need a committee approach to this thing.

So does he get 35 back from C. Ward?

Can't switch numbers as long as Ward is on the roster. That being said West needs to focus on getting some touches back from Williams first. He can always be the odd man out to grab some PS guy for any position.

Andy said yesterday he really wanted to work on a three man committee using both Williams and Ware. Not sure how this changes that or if he's strictly a fall back guy. I do think this new running back by committee deal is going to take a few weeks to work out as well.

One thing I didn't remember about West is that he ran a 4.26 at his pro day. He looked like he was running in mud during the preseason here!
