Chiefs have an odd deal where the two OLBs both rank near the top mainly because of 22 sacks and league leading 12 FFs and the two ILBs both rank near the bottom mainly because they are run specialists who couldn’t stop the run. Mismatched conundrum of a group.

They have a group with nobody standing out as a beast on his own but rather 4 guys that can do pretty much everything needed. We lack such an efficiency. Obviously we haven't invested as much as they did in the group but they have a unit that resembles the Seattle LBs that took the team to the SB. But I don't really consider him a LB, more like just a "rush end".

Odd thing is that Justin Houston has spent most of his career as an elite run defender who was terrific at setting edge. He’s been very average this year and part of the problem in run defense. That’s hard to figure. Dee Ford is a pure edge rusher who’s actually elevated his run defense to average this year (which is as good as it likely gets with him). Meanwhile we have two ILBs who can’t cover anyone but are supposed to be great vs run. Hitchens missed one tackle in Dallas last year. One! He’s misses 2-3 per game here. Again just kind of a whacko group.

Even in that Clowney is: #24 in sacks #11 in tackles for loss He's not in top 25 in QB hits and not even in top 50 in any other category you mentioned. Yet he's one of the best OLBs out there, which is my point. He's similar to Houston of old in that sense as a guy that came out as an edge rusher and made the switch. jetlord 10,210
Depending on injuries, if the Chiefs win their first playoff game, I would be fairly optimistic about playing the Pats in Arrowhead. They just haven't been that good on the road and KC seems to give them a tough game even when the Pats are at home. The toughest playoff game will the the first one IMHO. All three possible first round matches I think are worse matchups for us than either NE or Houston coming into Arrowhead.

Agree both matchup wise and obviously because we haven’t cracked through this round in decades. It’s our kryptonite and I’d feel really confident going forward if we can get past it. Docbarnabee 225
Well we get the hot team in the Colts. Key to the game will be stopping the run and getting pressure on luck without having to blitz. My strategy would be to bring 6 guys on the pass rush on any 3rd and long. Otherwise play to stop run and double T.Y. Hilton. Hopefully Berry is up for this game. Key will be to get out to a fast start and make the colts one dimensional. Make sure we make luck uncomfortable. Gonna be an interesting game. If we play well and have sammy/ldt/berry/ware in the lineup, Indy I like our chances against every team we could possibly face. Yes that would be great but......Houston could not pressure Luck so I dont see how KC does. KC has not stopped the run all season. To me let Mahomes win this. Throw the ball and compliment timely runs.No turnovers please. Need to play with the lead. Mahomes 5 tds and 450 yards passing. The defense plays better at home so maybe one or two turnovers. I think KC blows them out if Watkins is healthy. Close game if he is not.
Marleydawg 60
Gonna be a tough game, turnovers will be huge. Can KC pressure luck, can they avoid defensive penalties on 3rd down? Like all the games this year, if the D can cobble together enough plays to make a couple stops we should be ok at home. no matter how it ends up this year, it looks like Luck v Mahomes is going to be a thing. Two really good young teams.
