Mloe68 1,521
Link has alot of imbedded pictures or I'd just post it. But its a great story about how this organization behind first and foremost Brett Veach, went out and got this once in a generation talent. A highlight is that Veach called Mahomes agents partner 90 days in a row to keep tabs on Mahomes and other teams interest in him. Furthermore it seems apparent Mahomes handlers wanted him with Andy Reid in KC as well. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/01/09/we-got-it-done-inside-story-how-patrick-mahomes-landed-with-chiefs/?utm_term=.4b09da53361d

Lamardirts 2,121
Who was it on here that said Veach wasn't an integral part of getting Mahomes here? Had teams known he would have been the first overall pick but no one had the balls to move up like we did to get him. We didn't get lucky we did our homework and knew the guy was the real deal. moons314 2,463
We all know how special Mahomes is, and how fortunate we are to have him, but god damn it's hard not to get goosebumps reading things like that. As good as we all think he already is, I can't help but feel like we still don't fully grasp just how special he is. This 23 year old kid has the majority of the midwest in the palm of his hand. Maybe something similiar? I just had never heard about the 90 plus days in a row Veach reached out for info from Mahomes representation. Or the pre draft cryptic Red Raiders logo Veach would send. Or the fact Steinbergs agency had decided out of 32 teams that the Chiefs were his best fit months before the draft. Looks like a brilliant trade that had unbelievable scouting by Veach of both the player and his other suitors.

Still a great read. Thanks for posting
xen 1,010,220
Yeah I think Terez Paylor at Yahoo had a similiar story but this had some good new stuff. Would have liked for Dorsey to go on record.
qnet 1,158
I remember the similarity of the previous story to this one, but like Xen mentioned; this one had some extra stuff. I was not following the Chiefs offseason like I usually do, and didn't watch the draft. I just casually Googled about the 17 draft, and found out they drafted a QB. I was immediately excited, and came straight here. I knew nothing about Mahomes, but when I found out they moved up to take him over Watson, I knew something was up. jetlord 10,210
The story makes it seem as if the KC interest was well disguised. But if I recall correctly, there was quite a bit of Mahomes talk in KC in the days before the draft. We certainly promoted drafting him here on the CC board. Of course, many were for drafting any capable QB to replace Smith. That being said, it had to be a shock to the later teams to see KC move up and grab their QBOTF. As a Big 12 fan I really believed Mahomes had a chance to be good in time. Nothing like this though. I was actually sitting in Margaritaville Casino in Las Vegas when I saw the pick and went on an alcohol induced celebration so over the top my wife started yelling at me. My question is could an agency like this that clearly seemed to liked the idea of Mahomes in KC, actually help us know what other teams are truly showing the most interest in him. It seems to me that this is the most valuable info Veach may have gotten outside of scouting Mahomes himself.

Thegoatee 1,785
It was so surreal to see KC make a huge trade and snag a QB in real time. It was like a dream moment coming true.
