I think the reason Ragland is a Chief may be because they wanted to switch to Rex Ryan if things didn't work out for Sutton.

That is something I could see Andy actually doing. All these old coaches like Bill Snyder try forcing their kids into positions of power. "Cmon Dad, I can do it!" Clark Hunt needs to step in and make sure that doesn't happen.

NChiefsCorner 496
If Rex Ryan becomes our next DC, I think the defense will go with bigger players.

Now if Clark hired his brother to be GM that's another issue. Clark is a much better owner than his Dad was in my opinion. He's done anything and everything I could possibly ask from an owner and created accountability to him in three different areas where his Dad only had one. Docbarnabee 225
I like Rex Ryan as a coordinator. He is aggressive. This is his system, so players are going to understand the principles of it. I think he can make it work with players we have and draft. He has been very successful.

I think he's been a good owner. I am saying that he literally inherited the team, so he probably doesn't have the best perspective on making tough calls about the type of relationship that Andy and Britt have. We also know he's pretty loyal like his father was - he wanted to keep Herm! But he will make some tough calls.
Adamixoye 604
I can't tell you how randomly happy it makes me that Mahomes comes out and says all the right things to the media about it being a team game and a team loss and putting things on himself BUT in the locker room he doesn't pull any punches. THAT is a leader.
Adamixoye 604
Also, I think I'll be upset with an internal candidate BUT if there is any truth to those Chiefs Kingdom tweets then maybe it won't be TOO bad.
xen 1,010,220
Great news! I'd be happy with Rex Ryan. Guy is a hell of a DC. Andy won't hire him if he doesn't think they can coexist so not worried about that. Need some fire on D and Ryan has that in spades. Plus he loves him some blitzes. KC Warpaint 3,251
one question i have is...was sutton the only one fired or did the whole defensive staff go....wouldn't a new DC want to bring a few of His guys with him?
Adamixoye 604
I think there are reasons to be skeptical of Ryan, but as balto pointed out his defenses have never been bad either as a DC or HC, and they've often been very good! I think I would take the chance.

If someone would have told me before the game the Chiefs would score 31 points in the second half alone, I would have said oh Chiefs win easy. But then you tell me the Chiefs lose that game, and immediately the first and only thing I think is: F*ck you Bob Sutton
